| Milestones:
- Served over 17,000 visitors to the shelter
- Handled 1,121 animal adoptions, a 13% increase over last year's number
- Investigated over 9,000 complaints with the majority of the calls dedicated to barking dogs, animals at large and animal cruelty
- Impounded 6,885 animals with 4,845 being euthanized
Achievements:
- Received approval for a new Administrative Office to be completed in the summer of 2000
- Completed training of many staff in animal control subjects from national level schools
- Received approval for a network computer system that will provide better service to the public through computerization of adoptions, owner claims, and animal licenses
- Established a website, www.citruscritters.com (Animal Services), showing pictures of animals that are available for adoption
- Completed the second year of the mandatory spay/neuter program which reduces the number of unwanted animals being euthanized each year
- Logged in 1,142.25 hours of support by volunteers enabling the division to provide better service to the citizens of Citrus County
- Opened the "Dalmatian Station," a black and white spotted gazebo, which provides prospective adopters with a quiet setting to ponder their pet adoption decisions
- Hosted the first "Critters and Kids" day, May 10th, ..... 400 visitors, 82 microchips implanted, 15 adoptions, 2 owner reclaims, and 27 cats fostered! WHEW -- but worth every minute of preparation!
